One of the best things about t-shirts is their disposability. You wear them for awhile, get tired of them, and buy new t-shirts as you need them. They are super cheap and there are literally endless t-shirts out there to be bought, so why waste your time on old t-shirts covered in mustard stains? Well, you’re going to have cases upon cases of old t-shirts lying around if you don’t decide what to do with these garment relics. What do you do with old t-shirts, anyway?
Donation is a good option, as far as your old t-shirts are concerned. There are over a million homeless people in America today, who struggle to just find food enough to fuel their bodies. Clothes are the least of their worries. Donating your old t-shirts to a shelter, or some similar organization, sees that your old t-shirt finds a very grateful new owner. People need clothes, not stained messes. Make sure that what you send the needy is good enough to wear out to interact with the public.
After you donate what you can, you are going to be left with a goodly-sized box full of t-shirts that have a few holes in them, or may be too stained for the purpose of donation. These few shirts still have a purpose. Cut these t-shirts into strips for use as cloth rags. They serve as inexpensive cloths that can be thrown away after a single use, and a cotton cloth is much more absorbent than your average paper towels.
This brings us to finding a use for all of those t-shirts that fall somewhere in the middle between donations and rags. The majority of your used t-shirts will be in fairly good condition, but no where good enough to give to the needy. What is wonderful about these t-shirts is that you get to really get creative with them. Anyone who does crafts with fabrics knows that these used t-shirts are a wealth of good material for blankets and other such home-made goods. Crafts are a wonderful hobby, so if you don’t do them…maybe you should start!
There are so many things that can be done with your old t-shirts that you will stop dreading the day you must clean out your closet and look forward to the day when you can make something new and useful from something old and worn. Don’t forget that whatever you do with the old t-shirts, you must first make sure they are clean and sterile before they continue to the next stage of their life. Old t-shirts don’t have to end up in the garbage after all.
